How to Style Your Dream Rustic Dining Table for Christmas

There’s nothing better than gathering round a solid wooden table at Christmas. Rustic dining furniture has a way of making a room feel instantly warm and welcoming, just the right backdrop for great food, a glass of mulled wine or two and a good catch-up with family.

Here’s how to dress your rustic table for the season without fuss or frills, keeping things simple, natural and full of character.

1. Keep the Wood on Show

A rustic table is a feature in itself, so don’t be tempted to cover it up. Skip the full tablecloth and go for a runner in natural linen, cotton or burlap. It softens the look while letting the grain and knots of the wood take centre stage. Our Rustic Pine Tables and Reclaimed Elm Dining Tables both work beautifully with a stripped-back setting like this.

2. Stick to an Earthy Palette

Traditional red and green is fine, but if you want something a bit calmer, try rich browns, deep greens, soft creams and the odd touch of burgundy. A hint of copper or brass here and there brings in a bit of festive shine without overdoing it.

3. Go for a Natural Centrepiece

Keep it simple, a garland of fir or eucalyptus down the centre of the table, dotted with pinecones, berries and candles. If you’ve not got a garland, gather a few branches in a rustic jug or lay greenery loosely along the table and tuck fairy lights through. A wooden board with nuts, clementines and pomegranates makes a centrepiece you can actually eat.

4. Layer Your Tableware

White plates, stoneware mugs, wooden chargers, it doesn’t need to match perfectly. In fact, the mix adds to the rustic charm. Tie napkins with a bit of twine or ribbon, and tuck in a sprig of rosemary or thyme. Small touches like this are simple but make guests feel thought of.

5. Add Warm Light

Nothing beats candlelight on a wooden table. Mix pillar candles, tapers and tealights at different heights. Pop them in jars, brass holders or even old jam jars for that homely glow. Add a string of warm fairy lights if you like a bit of sparkle.

6. Balance the Rustic with the Refined

Rustic doesn’t mean refined. Pair the natural wood with polished glasses, brass cutlery or a velvet ribbon around your napkins. It’s that mix of rugged and refined that gives the table its charm.

The best rustic Christmas tables aren’t about perfection, they’re about atmosphere. Keep it natural, keep it simple, and let the wood do the talking. Add a few thoughtful touches and your rustic table will feel like the heart of the home throughout the festive season and beyond.
