Rustic Bath Set

Both pieces are cut from reclaimed elm barn doors. The weather got to this timber long before anyone thought to make furniture out of it — and every mark of it is still showing.

Why the two together

They won't match. They'll belong.

Both come out of the same range: reclaimed elm barn doors, the same clear hard wax oil, the same rustic colour. They won't be identical — nothing reclaimed ever is — but they'll sit together properly, which is more than two unrelated purchases will do.

The board

A book, a glass, and somewhere to put your phone that isn't the floor. 22cm front to back, 40mm of solid elm, antique cast iron handles at each end to lift it clear.

The stool

Towels, a robe, the thing you forgot — or you, at 120kg, because the hard wax oil is rated for wet rooms. Then it moves to the kitchen, the hallway, the end of the bed. It outlives the bathroom it was bought for.

The pair

One order, one delivery, one lead time. Which is also why the board costs less when it travels with the stool — we're only paying the carrier once.

Barn doors that spent their whole lives keeping the weather out.

Now they hold a candle and a cup of tea. We think that's a fair retirement.

Where it comes from

Reclaimed elm. Here's what that actually means.

These were barn doors before they were furniture. Elm — taken apart and rebuilt by hand, using traditional joinery, into a stool and a board.

Which means nobody gets to choose what turns up. There will be nail holes. There will be splits, saw marks, and patches of patina that were there long before anyone thought to make a bath board out of them. The grain will not match the photograph — because the photograph is of a different door.

What is consistent is the spec. Every stool is built to the same dimensions within a 2cm tolerance, and every piece takes the same clear hard wax oil. You'll know exactly what size it is. You won't know exactly what it looks like — and that's the whole trade.

Before you ask

The questions we actually get.

How do I know which board length to buy?

Two measurements across the top of your bath — outside width and inside width. Put them into the finder above and it'll tell you. If you're between sizes, don't guess — message us and we'll tell you straight whether it'll work.

My bath is against a wall. Does that matter?

Yes, and it's the main thing people get wrong. The board can't be wider than the gap it's sitting in, so measure from the wall to the outer edge of the tub. That's your Measurement 1.

Will the wood mark or warp in a bathroom?

Both pieces are finished in a clear hard wax oil. It soaks into the grain rather than sitting on top as a film, which is why the elm's own colour still comes through instead of being covered up. The stool is rated for showers and wet rooms.

Water-resistant isn't waterproof, though, and we'd rather tell you than let you find out. Wipe splashes rather than letting them pool, and give it a fresh coat every year or so. Hard wax oil is the one finish you can repair in place — no stripping, no sanding back, just clean it and re-oil the patch. We sell the Fiddes wax care kit if you want the same oil we used.

Can I use the stool anywhere other than the bathroom?

Most people do, eventually. It's a stool. Plant stand, bedside table, somewhere to sit and put your boots on. The bathroom is just where it starts.

How does the discount work?

15% comes off everything on the site during the sale. The bath board goes to 25% when it's ordered with a stool. Both are applied automatically at checkout — there's no code to remember and nothing to type.

How long does it take?

3–5 working days to dispatch, then FedEx Next Day. UK mainland delivery is free. If you need it for a date, tell us before you order and we'll be honest about whether we can hit it.

Bath board sizing

Which size fits your bath?

One measurement. Run a tape across the top of your bath at its widest point — from the wall to the outer edge — and match it to the chart.

A bath against a wall with the board resting across it. Measure across the top at the widest point, from the wall to the outer edge. wall Widest point

*This chart assumes your bath has a wall on one side. If yours is freestanding with no wall to butt up against, match the board to the tub instead — measure the tub itself, outer edge to outer edge, and choose the board closest to that. Not sure? Message us before you order.
