How to be more productive whilst working from home

Follow these simple tips to stay on top of your work and keep organised whilst working from home

We are sharing seven simple tips to help you stay organised and productive whilst working from home

With working from home becoming the new norm you might be thinking about updating your office space.

Perhaps it was previously just a dumping ground for paperwork or maybe just somewhere you stored things before they needed to be moved into the attic or garden shed.

However, if it has become your primary workspace you may need to have a rethink to ensure you’re making the most out of the space and that you feel both comfortable and productive.

Studies have shown physical environments influence an individual’s well-being and directly influence their work performance and productivity.

Try these tips to perk up your space and productivity today…

1.   Find and create a beautiful desk and office space

First of all, you want to create a desk that reflects you and what you think looks good. This will mean you have more pride in your space and you are more likely to want to keep it clean and tidy.

A relatively neat and orderly office space clears the way for higher productivity and less wasted time.

Having an office desk that you love to look at and spend time at is going to instantly improve your mood whilst being at it.

2.  It doesn't have to stay on your desk

A lot of people keep piles of paperwork or books on their desk so that it is easy to reach for whilst working.  However, it can look cluttered and messy which ultimately will affect your overall productivity

Not everything has to stay on your desk at all times. Dedicate some shelf space nearby for some of your office supplies. This means everything is kept together but out of your sight when you are not using it.

This means that you won’t be moving things around your desk constantly to make room for what you are actually working on. Your workspace will then be a more calming space.

3.  Invest in your chair

It’s not new news that sitting on a chair all day isn’t the greatest for our health. However, having a fully adjustable chair with a good supportive backrest is essential for good posture and comfort.

4.  Phone Charging Port

Having a stand for your phone is so handy, it takes up less room and you don't have to keep losing your charging cable down the back of your desk.

If you just put it on the stand each time you sit down which means you will never be stuck without a charge.

5.  Make sure you have good lighting

Sitting in darkness helps no one – it decreases our productivity and makes us feel genuinely rather glum. Make sure you have good lighting even better if its an industrial office desk lamp that fits in with the rest of your decor!

6.  Decorate with personal items

Unlike corporate office spaces, our home offices have the potential to be very personal and loved spaces. You should love sitting there and be proud of the space you have created.

Make sure you decorate it with some of your prized possessions whether that is a framed qualification, some carefully chosen stationary or some carefully curated and in theme artwork.

The more aesthetically pleasing the space the happier you will be in there.

7.  One final thought - Straighten Your Desk

At the end of the day, do a quick straighten, so you have a clean start the next day.

Whether you use one tip or try them all. The amount of effort you put into creating and maintaining an efficient work area will pay off in a big way.

Instead of spending time looking for things and shuffling piles, you’ll be able to spend your time…well…working and you’ll enjoy having a beautifully designed rustic industrial office space that is clutter-free!
